George Howard Pickett

George Howard Pickett, 84, of Ashdown, Arkansas went to be with the Lord May 14, 2025 in Ashdown after a valiant battle with lung disease. He was born on October 4, 1940 in the Fomby Community of Ashdown. He was a 1958 graduate of Ashdown High School and a graduate of Texarkana College. After serving in the Army, he was employed in the defense industry for many years in quality assurance engineering. He was a charter and founding member of HillTop Bible Fellowship where he served on the building committee and was an active member of their men’s fellowship for many years. His greatest loves were his relationship with his Lord, his high school sweetheart and wife of 47 years, his girls, grandkids, great-granddaughter and his family. He loved a good game of dominoes, was an avid reader of all genres especially history and religion and could talk your ear off about politics, He was an advocate for the underdog and had a soft spot for abandoned and orphaned children. He was a passionate Razorback fan, enjoyed watching horse racing and had a great sense of humor. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Dianne Simmons Pickett; father and mother, Thomas York Pickett and Leona Mae Roberson Pickett; his brother, Thomas McCoy Pickett and his sister, Gail Pickett Sewell and a special son, Jessie Ricks. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberly and David Jordan of McKinney, Texas and Kendra and Kevin Griffin of Conway, Arkansas; four grandchildren, Ryan (Natalie) Jordan of McKinney, Texas, Kathryn Jordan of Fort Worth, Texas, Aaron (Tymber) Griffin of Barling, Arkansas and Andrew (Hadleigh) Griffin of Little Rock, Arkansas; a great-granddaughter, Emberlyn Griffin; three sisters, Sarah Sue Ward (Kermit) of Ashdown, Mary Lou Moore of Whitehouse, Texas and Maxine Johnson (Gene) of Alvin, Texas; a sister-in-law Darlene Pickett of Waco, Texas; a special son, Sylvester Ricks of Arlington, Texas and many nieces, nephews and friends. His family is grateful to the caregivers at Pleasant Manor Nursing Home especially Kayla, Charles, Crystal, Kristy and Carrie and the team with Dierksen Hospice - Laura, Amanda, Rufus and Kameka. Pallbearers will be his sons-in-law, grandsons and brother-in-law, Kermit Ward. Honorary pallbearer, Gene Johnson Visitation will be held at Madden Funeral Home on Saturday, May 17, at 4:00 pm with the service to begin at 4:30 pm. Graveside will follow at Ashdown Cemetery.
