Margie Lummus Jones Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Margie Maxine Lummus Jones, 96, of Ogden, Arkansas, departed this earth December 17, 2019 in Ashdown, Arkansas surrounded by her children. A celebration of Life will be February 1, 2020 at First Baptist Church, Ogden, Arkansas at 11:00 a.m. Margie was born January 25, 1923, in Winthrop, AR, to Charles and Cora Lutz Lummus. She graduated Valedictorian of the Ashdown High School class of 1940. On October 29, 1941, Margie married the love of her life, Bruce Murphey Jones, in Prescott, AR. Margie loved gardening, sewing, and playing the piano, accompanied by Bruce on the guitar, as they sang everything from favorite hymns to country music. She was well known in the community for her sourdough bread and homemade chicken and noodles. In 1994, Margie retired from the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service where she worked 23 years. Margie was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Murphey Jones; parents, Charles and Cora Lutz Lummus; son, Michael Bruce Jones; two brothers Charles Lummus and Wayne Lummus and a beloved great-grandson Brandon Kane Cramer. Remaining to share her memories are her children: two daughters, Roxana Jones (Mickey Vaughn) of Ashdown, AR and Linda Garraty (Jim) of Grapevine, TX, two sons, Jerry Jones (Fran) of Pecos, NM and Vernon Jones (Rhonda) of Mt. Ida, one brother William Lummus of Ogden and a special niece Becky Lummus Cooper (Jeff) of Ashdown. She is survived by grandchildren, Scott Van Winkle of Ogden, Amber White of Huntsville, TX, Robert (Bo Jo) Jones of Ashdown, Melissa Burns of Genoa, Maureen Garraty of Grapevine, TX, Jennifer Hargett of Quantico, VA, Michelle Longoria of Fort Worth, TX, Jesse Jones of Albuquerque, NM, Jeffrey Wechsler and Sandra Wechsler Frosch of Santa Fe, NM, Jessica Driver and Emily Hentschel of Colorado, Rebecca Jones of Tulsa, OK, Adam Jones of Fayetteville, Amy Smiley of Mt. Ida, and Melissa Scissom of Dover, and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Cremation is under the direction of Madden Funeral Home-Ashdown. A private burial will be at New Hope Cemetery in Bloomburg, TX.
