Michael J. Carson was born to Nelson and Iva Carson on Dec. 2, 1945 in Ashdown, AR. Michael was the eldest of 3 children born to this union. During his childhood and teenage years, he was a member of the East Main Church COGIC. He participated in children and teen ministries which included programs/plays and choir. Michael attended N.M. Brown Elementary School and graduated from L.R. County Training High School in 1964. While in high school he was also an avid basketball player. After high school he attended Philander Smith College in Little Rock, AR. He later went into the United States Army as a paratrooper. After serving his country he was employed at Domtar industries where he spent the next 43 years, and retired. He was also a member in good standing of the Gideons of Texarkana. Michael was a member of Church On The Rock in Texarkana, Texas. He often served in shelters to help others and enjoyed telling people about how good the Lord was. Mike is survived by His loving wife of 16 years, Dianne Carson. 2 Sons: Michael J Carson of Abilene, TX & Renwick Carson of Jacksonville, FL. 1 adult daughter: Kristle Carson of Dallas, TX. 3 Stepsons: Johnny Rosser, Lewis Rosser, & Charles Duke. 4 Stepdaughters: Dorothy Yeager, Cecilia Jarvis, Lezlie Cusher, and Taressia Crutchfield. 1 granddaughter/adopted daughter TyLicia Crutchfield. Mike was blessed with 17 grandchildren & 4 great grandchildren Mike loved his family and cherished the times spent together. Along with his wife and children, Mike is survived by 4 sisters: Minnie Fountaine (Alabama), Sonja Amoah-Forson (Washington), Marva Matlock (TX), & Cheryl Green (AR), & 1 brother Greg Givans (AR). As well as numerous Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces, and Nephews. Mike was preceded in death by his beloved parents Nelson and Iva Carson of Ashdown. 2 brothers Odell Brown & Nolbert Carson and a daughter Rebecca Michelle Carson. Mike will be remembered for his smile, his caring nature and his love for all people. He met no strangers and people quickly became lifelong friends. Visitation will be Thursday, June 13, 2019 from 6:00 – 8:00 at Madden Funeral Home in Ashdown. Graveside services will be Friday, June 14, 2019 at Rhodes Cemetery with Sonja Amoah-Forson officiating. Repass will follow at Church On The Rock in Texarkana.
